JETHAWKS REPORT : His Numbers Don’t Add Up

You wouldn’t guess that Ken Cloude’s record is just 1-0 by looking at the rest of his statistics--a 1.99 earned-run average, .160 opponents’ batting average, a league-leading 32 strikeouts and five walks.

Cloude, the staff’s unluckiest member, pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run, one-hit ball Sunday but did not get a decision because the JetHawks blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth.

Cloude, who lost another victory when the JetHawks blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth and couldn’t make it through five innings with a 13-3 lead in another start, isn’t bothered by his record.

Not after starting 0-4 last season at Wisconsin.

“I was pitching decent enough to win, I just wasn’t getting support,” he said. “All you can do is pitch well. Wins and losses don’t mean that much at this level.”

JetHawk players who hadn’t seen it before were amazed by Lake Elsinore’s $25 million, state-of-the-art, 7,500-seat ballpark with its restaurant overlooking left field and electronic color message board.

“They were saying this was big league, but I had no idea,” Jason Cook said. “This is pretty plush.”

Shortstop Luis Molina started Tuesday for the first time since he injured his back April 9. . . . The JetHawks drew 29,636 fans in their six-game homestand. At that rate, they would surpass last season’s attendance at Riverside on May 1.
