Shubeck Unloads, Chaminade Wins

Scott Shubeck’s bases-loaded single drove in Dan Dworsky with two out in the ninth inning Tuesday to lead Chaminade High to a 3-2 Mission League baseball victory over Notre Dame.
First-place Chaminade (15-4-1, 7-1-1 in league play) moved one game ahead of idle Loyola.
Junior right-hander Chris Gray (5-1) scattered nine hits, struck out seven and pitched a complete game.
Gray blanked the Knights (12-7, 3-4) after allowing a two-run home run to Jorge Piedra in the first inning.
Hart 8, Burroughs 3--Cody Joyce had three hits, including a three-run home run, drove in four runs, scored three and stole two bases for Hart (16-4, 9-0) in a Foothill League game at Hart.
Ryan Gallion had two hits and scored twice, and Bob Graves (3-1) pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, striking out five for Hart.
Quartz Hill 6, Palmdale 1--Bryan Garcia had four hits and drove in a run for the Rebels in a Golden League game at Palmdale.
Jo’Sean Lyles added three hits and an RBI for Quartz Hill (15-4, 5-0).
Antelope Valley 4, Littlerock 3--Kevin Pendleton had two hits and three RBIs for the Antelopes during a Golden League game at Antelope Valley.
Jeremy Hendrickson pitched six strong innings for Antelope Valley (13-8, 4-1).
Saugus 12, Burbank 7--Jeff Hammond’s grand slam highlighted a seven-run third inning for the Centurions (13-8, 6-4) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.
Glendale 17, Muir 2--Bryan Chan hit two home runs, and Mark Hutchinson added four hits for the Dynamiters (14-3, 8-2) in a Pacific League game at Muir.
Phil Onsaga (7-1) pitched five innings for Glendale, scattering three hits while striking out seven and walking three.
Ventura 2, Buena 1--Thad Metz squeezed home Mike Anderson with the winning run in the fifth inning and the Cougars (7-12, 3-6) upset the Bulldogs (13-5, 5-4) in a Channel League game at Buena.
Buena freshman Jason Branch (1-2) pitched a five-hitter, striking out four, walking none and allowing an unearned run.
Sylmar 3, North Hollywood 1--Rafael Velazco (7-0) pitched a five-hitter and struck out four, and Albert Palma added two hits and scored a run for the Spartans (16-3, 11-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood (9-15, 5-6).
Poly 15, Grant 3--Cesar Rodriguez had four hits and five RBIs for the Parrots (17-5-1, 9-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Gabe Gomez had three hits and drove in two runs for Poly.
SOFTBALL
Kennedy 1, Granada Hills 0--Monica Espita’s 12th-inning triple drove in Cynthia Barraza and the Golden Cougars (14-1, 7-0) clinched the Northwest Valley Conference title at Brand Park.
Jessica Creith struck out 13 for Granada Hills (7-8, 3-3).
El Camino Real 9, Chatsworth 3--Tami Jones had four hits and drove in three runs for the Conquistadores (12-4, 7-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Kristi Nicklaus had three hits and two RBIs for El Camino Real.
Verdugo Hills 13, Franklin 0--Melanie Wood pitched her second no-hitter of the season, striking out 14 for the Dons (15-3, 8-0) in a Northern Conference game.
North Hollywood 13, Van Nuys 11--Sophomore Claudia Villa hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to snap an 11-11 tie in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Villa’s homer capped a five-run inning for the Huskies (8-11, 4-3).
Camarillo 4, Channel Islands 0--Melanie Richardson pitched a one-hitter, struck out 11 and walked one for the Scorpions (12-1-1, 7-1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Royal 5, Simi Valley 2--Jesse Leonard scored the go-ahead run on Jenny Wilkinson’s fielder’s choice in the fifth inning for the Highlanders (10-11, 3-6) in a Marmonte League game.
Rachel Alcorn added a three-run home run in the sixth.
Michelle Schoen scored for the Pioneers (11-8, 6-3) in the first inning on Corinne Long’s triple.
Moorpark 10, Malibu 0--Tracey Milburn hit a home run on the game’s first pitch for the Musketeers (10-7, 9-1) in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.
Erin Heinbechner (10-4) had 10 strikeouts while recording her fifth shutout in league play.
Calabasas 6, Nordhoff 0--Cara Blumfield had three hits and drove in two runs, and Keyna Bell added two hits and two RBIs for the Coyotes (8-5-1, 7-3) in a Frontier League game.
Kelly Sargent (4-1) pitched a three-hitter, striking out six for the Coyotes.
Village Christian 2, L.A. Baptist 0--Jackie Aranda pitched her second no-hitter, losing a perfect game on two errors, and struck out 12 in an Alpha League game.
Aranda (8-3) drove in a run with a first-inning single. Laura Robbins squeezed home Shandra Mahinay with the winning run.
Quartz Hill 5, Palmdale 3--Jodie Cox pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts and had two triples in a Golden League game.
Rio Mesa 12, Dos Pueblos 2--Kiara Cochran had a two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans (13-4, 7-2) in a Channel League game.
