Bonds Hits Two Homers, Giving Him 11 for the Month of April

SAN DIEGO — Barry Bonds, who became part of the 300-300 club of home run hitters and base stealers on Saturday, joined another fairly exclusive society Tuesday night when his two home runs in San Francisco’s 9-4 victory over the San Diego Padres gave him 11 for April.
That tied a major league record that has also been tied by Florida’s Gary Sheffield and Baltimore’s Brady Anderson. It was first done by Pittsburgh’s Willie Stargell in 1971, and then by the New York Yankees’ Graig Nettles in 1974 and Philadelphia’s Mike Schmidt in ’76.
Bonds pushed his lifetime homer total to 303.
Both of Bonds’ homers came off Bob Tewksbury (3-1), who had his worst outing as a Padre starter. Bonds’ fourth grand slam capped a six-run fifth inning that helped the Giants overcome a 4-0 San Diego lead, and his two-run homer in the sixth made it 8-4.
He has hit .392, with 19 homers and 46 RBIs in 52 games in San Diego.
