A Moorpark High School junior died Friday when he flipped his car while driving on Balcome Canyon Road, coroner officials said.
Dustin Muschitz, 17, of Santa Paula, was pronounced dead in the Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks at 11 a.m., officials said.
Muschitz was traveling alone southbound on the road in his 1962 Volkswagen Bug about 10:20 a.m. when he apparently took a curve too fast and flipped the car, the CHP said.
Muschitz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car onto the road, the CHP said. He was airlifted to Los Robles.
In another fatal accident, authorities identified the driver who was killed in a head-on collision Thursday in Oxnard as Daniel Garcia, 20, of Oxnard.
Police and paramedics say the farm worker died instantly of massive head and torso injuries in the high-speed crash on Rice Avenue near Celsius Avenue.
The driver of the pickup that hit Garcia’s car, Eliseo Hernandez, 50, of Oxnard, was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released.
Police say Garcia attempted to avoid colliding with Hernandez’s vehicle as it drove the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Rice Avenue about 8:30 p.m., but other vehicles traveling in the adjacent lane left him with no room to maneuver.
Alcohol is suspected of playing a role in the wreck and the investigation is continuing, police said.
Any witnesses are asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 385-7750.
