Caring for Animals Is Their Pet Project

Pet agencies are kicking off Be Kind to Animals Week with events this weekend in Irvine and Newport Beach.
The Irvine Animal Care Center will have its annual open house today, playing host to more than 30 animal-care agencies. The free event, which will feature unusual animals, displays and presentations, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also, the National Cat Protection Society in Newport Beach is having its first Pet Adoptathon this weekend in the hope of finding families for abandoned cats and kittens.
The shelter, at 6904 West Coast Highway, will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Information: (714) 650-1232.
