Malcolm and Margaret Jones have been honored with the school district’s annual Community Service Award and commended at a special assembly at Tustin Memorial Elementary.
The couple together volunteered more than 500 hours at the school in the last 18 months, officials said.
Officials of the Tustin Unified School District credited the Joneses with developing a districtwide Volunteer Instruction Program and helping to solicit other volunteers from local service clubs and organizations.
Malcolm Jones, a professor emeritus at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, has tutored students in math, reading and science. Margaret Jones works with students in the areas of reading and writing.
They have also assisted teachers in science labs and classrooms.
