Kiwi’s Record

* I read your May 14 editorial and was concerned about your characterization of Kiwi International Air Lines. You imply that there are problems. If so, what are they?
Kiwi recently passed FAA’s NASIP inspection--a thorough look at every aspect of the company that all carriers must go through--with flying colors. Kiwi has never scratched a plane or injured a passenger due to a mechanical or operational diffi- culty.
Kiwi’s pilots and mechanics average 20 years of experience. We hire our own mechanics instead of subcontracting. We train our own pilots. In virtually every operational aspect, Kiwi resembles a major airline and does not fit the mold of today’s start-up carriers.
Since last Saturday’s unfortunate incident, small and new carriers have suffered guilt by association at the hands of the media that don’t have the time or inclination to look at the facts. Please start a trend by resisting the urge to put companies in a convenient group, just as you would not lump together nationalities or races into a stereotypical mold that is just not true.
