BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Rangers Put Gross on the Disabled List

Pitcher Kevin Gross was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Texas Rangers because of a slight ligament tear in his back.
Gross is 5-3 with a 5.88 ERA in nine starts this season. He was injured May 17 at Cleveland. The roster move was retroactive to May 18. Rick Helling was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take his roster spot.

Enos Slaughter’s uniform No. 9 will be retired Sept. 6 as part of ceremonies honoring the St. Louis Cardinals’ 1946 World Series champions.
Slaughter played in the major leagues from 1938 to 1959, finished with a .300 average and made the Hall of Fame in 1985.
