Tingstrom Returning to Work Next Week

Ventura Mayor Jack Tingstrom is expected to return to work next week after suffering a minor heart attack May 12.

“I am feeling good,” Tingstrom said Friday. “There is so much coming along, I am eager to get back and take my place.”

The 60-year-old mayor was rushed to Community Memorial Hospital by Ventura firefighters after experiencing chest pains.

He was admitted to the cardiac care unit, where he underwent a balloon angioplasty to clear a blockage in a coronary artery.

Tingstrom supporters have organized a $25-a-person breakfast at the Doubletree Hotel next Monday to welcome him back. The breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Money raised at the event will help pay the remaining debt from Tingstrom’s reelection bid last fall, his campaign manager said.

Councilwoman Rosa Lee Measures has presided over the weekly City Council meetings in his absence. Tingstrom’s doctor forbade him to watch the televised council meetings while he was recovering, fearing that he would get too excited.
