Suzan Nightingale, 46, newspaper columnist, author and journalism educator. A native of Santa Maria, Calif., and graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Nightingale wrote a column for the now-defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner and wrote book reviews for The Times. She was author of the best-selling cookbook “Electric Bread.” Nightingale also worked briefly for the Orange County Register and Indianapolis News but spent most of her career in Alaska as columnist for the Anchorage Daily News. With a master’s degree in teaching from Alaska Pacific University, she taught journalism there and at the University of Alaska in Anchorage. Last year, Nightingale was named an Alaska Woman of Achievement. On Wednesday in Rochester, Minn., of cancer.
