ROCK PURIST

Re Robert Hilburn’s piece on Metallica (“Full Metal Jacket,” June 2):
It was nice seeing a band that I recognize--even without their long hair! It seems that an eternity of alternative “rock” has left us “pure rockers” and die-hard metal fans with almost nothing to call music anymore. This is not to say that alternative “rock” is bad, just different, and most of us pure rockers are used to something harder than what is now popular. Since the demise of KNAC, I no longer bother turning on the radio. Now I have something to look forward to.
