Boys’ singles

Season Highlights: Runner-up in Southern Section individuals. Lost to top-seeded Amarit Rojsirivit of Alta Loma, 15-4, 15-7. Is the only Sentinel to appear in the individual finals. Led his team to its first appearance in the finals, losing to second-seeded Loara, 11-8. Advanced to quarterfinals in the individuals of mixed doubles with teammate Joyce Cabuhat.

Boys’ doubles

Name: Dat Nguyen

School: La Quinta

Year: Sr.

Name: Patrick Lam

Year: Jr.

Season Highlights: Nguyen and Lam won the section doubles title, upsetting the top-seeded team from Alhambra Keppel, Hong Xiao and Dinh Tran, 15-12, 15-11. Went 39-1 this season, leading La Quinta to its first final since 1978. The Aztecs were defeated by top-seeded Keppel 12-7, in the Division I finals.

Girls’ singles

Name: Joyce Cabuhat

School: Magnolia

Year: Jr.

Season Highlights: Seeded third in the individuals, she lost to Keppel’sCammie Chou in the semifinals, 5-11, 11-3, 12-11. Advanced to last season’s quarterfinals. In the team finals, she swept in singles and with Chung, defeated Tuan Nguyen and Sharon Myung in mixed doubles.

School: La Quinta

Name: Quyen Tran

School: Sr.

Season Highlights: Won the girls’ doubles title for La Quinta, upsetting Garden Grove’s second-seeded Lien Ly and Hoang Nguyen, 17-14, 15-5. With the victory, fourth-seeded Nguyen and Tran avenged a loss in the Garden Grove League finals to Ly and Nguyen. Tran partnered with Dat Nguyen and advanced to the individual mixed doubles semifinals.

Season Highlights: Seeded fourth, they advanced to the section semifinals where they lost to Keppel’s top-seeded Vincent Yeung and Chou, 15-12, 17-16.

SECOND TEAM

Boys’ singles

Name: Kevin Hoang

School: Garden Grove

Year: Sr.

Season Highlights: A reserve on last season’s team, he improved his game over the summer and was seeded fourth in boys’ singles individuals this season. Advanced to the semifinals, where he was defeated by the eventual champion Rojsirivit, 15-6, 15-6.

Season Highlights: Advanced to individuals quarterfinals. Swept their opponents in the Division II team finals, leading Loara to the title. Teamed with Melva Wong in mixed doubles to earn a victory in the team finals.

Year: Jr.

Season Highlights: A promising player for Loara next season. Picked up a victory over Magnolia’s Francis Uy in the team finals to lead Loara. Advanced to individual quarterfinals.

Season Highlights: Won the Garden Grove League title, defeating Nguyen and Tran, but lost in the section finals to Nguyen and Tran, 17-14, 15-5.

School: Garden Grove

Year: Jr.

Year: Sr.

Season Highlights: Unseeded, they advanced to the semifinals in section individuals before losing, 15-7, 18-15, to the eventual champion, Alta Loma’s second-seeded team of Marelyn Rompis and Rojsirivit. Kim will lead the Argonauts in boys’ singles next year, advancing to this year’s semifinals before losing to Chung, 18-14, 15-7.
