Re “D’Amato Stock Deal Earned $37,125 Profit in Single Day,” June 7: One is judged by the company one keeps according to Sen. Alfonse M. D’Amato (R-N.Y.), who has busily and noisily been investigating President Clinton’s prepresidential bank deals for more than a year. This is clearly a case of the pot calling the kettle black, judging from the D’Amato-Stratton questionable stock bonanza.

* It just isn’t fair. D’Amato turns $18,000 into $37,000 and gets front-page coverage complete with his picture while the first lady turns $1,000 into $100,000 and just gets a few lines on Page 18 and no picture.

* Hillary Clinton is a piker ($1,000 x 10 months = $100,000) compared to D’Amato ($18,000 x 1 day = $37,125). Ah, but it’s all legal, isn’t it?
