Yorba Linda Annexes 837 County Acres for Residential Use

YORBA LINDA — The city got 837 acres larger last week when the City Council approved the annexation of county land for residential development.
The new development will include homes, a public golf course, an elementary school and several parks.
Mayor John M. Gullixson said he favored annexing the land on the northern border of Yorba Linda because it affords the city more control over its development.
“Initially, they wanted to put 3,600 homes on that property,” said Gullixson, “but we have approved it only for 2,100.”
Yorba Linda, he noted, has prided itself on protecting its low-density environment. Wresting control of the land from the county, Gullixson said, ensures that future development of that land will blend with the rest of the community.
