U.S. gymnasts had some advice for American spectators planning to attend today’s optional competition: Make some noise!
“I don’t think they knew they could cheer,” Chainey Umphrey said of a large, but a rather subdued, Georgia Dome crowd that watched the compulsories.
John Roethlisberger said, “We need the crowd in the optional finals to be our eighth man. Really get into it, the way they do for the World Championships in Europe and Japan.
“We need 40,000 people tearing the roof down.”
