ANAHEIM — A 37-year-old murder suspect surrendered to police late Friday night, hours after he allegedly argued with and fatally shot a neighbor.
Andre Oliphant of Anaheim, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, was being held at Anaheim City Jail, said Police Lt. Ray Welch. Bail was set at $250,000.
Oliphant and the victim, Alexander Guy Yorba, 19, lived in the same apartment complex at 1900 E. Almont Ave., according to police. Around 4:30 p.m., the two men were arguing when Oliphant charged Yorba, according to police and witnesses.
When Yorba tried to defend himself, Oliphant fired one shot at close range into Yorba’s left side, police said. The bullet pierced Yorba’s left arm and lodged in his left side.
Neighbors and paramedics, who administered CPR, were unable to revive Yorba, who died a short time later at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Oliphant, who fled after the shooting, turned himself in to police around 11 p.m., Welch said.
