SAN DIEGO — In response to the bombing at the Olympics in Atlanta, a video on “bomb awareness” will be shown to police, city workers and volunteers before the Republican National Convention begins Aug. 12, city officials said Wednesday.
The film, being produced by the Police Department, will provide instruction on how to be alert for suspicious packages that might contain a bomb and what to do if such a package is spotted. The convention has upward of 10,000 volunteers.
“The goal is to raise awareness, to educate people, to ask everybody to help us by being on the lookout,” Police Capt. Dave Bajarano said.
The idea was developed at an emergency meeting called Sunday by Mayor Susan Golding to review security planning for the convention in light of the Atlanta incident.
