JetHawks Win on Miscue, 6-5

A dropped fly ball with two out in the top of the ninth inning allowed Shane Monahan to score the go-ahead run for the JetHawks in a 6-5 victory over the Visalia Oaks on Friday night at Recreation Park.

Visalia’s Lonny Landry dropped Jason Cook’s routine fly as Monahan raced home all the way from first to give the JetHawks (19-23) their second consecutive victory--both in which they scored the winning run in their final at-bat.

Right-hander Eric Morgan, who joined the JetHawks last week, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save. He had allowed three runs in one-third of an inning to blow a save in his last appearance, Tuesday against the Modesto A’s.

Brett Hinchliffe (8-8) pitched eight innings, his longest outing of the year, and picked up his first victory after four no-decisions.

Monahan, who drove in the winning run Thursday night, had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two on a double in the fifth inning.

Outfielder Scott Smith added three hits and one run batted in for the JetHawks.

The three-game series continues at 7:05 tonight in Visalia, with the JetHawks’ Trey Moore (3-4, 4.50) facing Visalia’s Gary Goldsmith (8-7, 5.13).
