Tight end Jay Novacek of the Dallas Cowboys is not recovering from back problems and could miss the entire season.
Trainer Jim Maurer said Novacek, 33, suffers from a degenerative disk in his lower back on which he had surgery in 1988 as a member of the Phoenix Cardinals. Novacek had two cortisone injections last week, but they did not reduce pain or swelling.

After spending three weeks practicing in the hills of western Maryland, the Baltimore Ravens will don their purple jerseys for the first time tonight when they make their NFL debut at sold out Memorial Stadium against the Philadelphia Eagles.
It will be the first NFL game involving a Baltimore team since December 1983.
