Cold Pill’s Link to ‘Speed’ Spurs Curbs

The Drug Enforcement Administration plans to ban bulk sales of a popular over-the-counter cold and allergy pill in a drive to keep people from converting it into methamphetamine, an illegal drug. The DEA plans to issue new regulations in the Federal Register restricting sales of pseudophedrine, spokeswoman Rogene Waite said. The new rules should not affect consumers who buy the pills generically or under brand names, such as Sudafed. During recent DEA raids, 38% of meth labs were found to be using pseudophedrine to produce the drug, Waite said.
