Amtrak Refurbishes Station on Internet

Talk about search engines! Amtrak’s recently revamped World Wide Web site can send Internet explorers on virtual rail trips, complete with scenery. Using a national system map display, virtual travelers can click on a region of the country and a route, then call up images of trip highlights and the interior of the train, including various classes.
More practical-minded travelers can plot how to get from Point A to Point B. Using the Trakrouter feature, travelers can choose any two cities from a pull-down menu of 650 destinations, and find the best route via Amtrak trains and Amtrak Thruway buses, the trip length, layovers and other facts.
By early next year, Amtrak hopes to make it possible to place reservations and purchase tickets online.
A separate section points to discounts and Amtrak Vacations packages.
The Web home page is at https://www.amtrak.com.
