Kamensky Signs Deal With Avalanche

High-scoring holdout Valeri Kamensky has signed a long-term contract with the Colorado Avalanche, and will practice today.
Terms were not disclosed.
Kamensky, the Stanley Cup championship team’s third-leading scorer last season, had been seeking more than $3 million a year after recording a career-best 38 goals and 47 assists. During the playoffs, the left wing was fourth in the NHL in scoring with 22 points.

Stu Grimson, best known for visiting the penalty box, was acquired on waivers by the Hartford Whalers from the Detroit Red Wings. In nine NHL seasons, Grimson has 1,216 penalty minutes, one goal and 15 assists. . . . Free-agent center Ron Sutter, a 14-year veteran, signed with the San Jose Sharks. Terms were not disclosed.
