Scientists Seek Halt to Skeleton Reburial

A group of scientists has filed a lawsuit seeking to block Indian tribes from reburying an ancient skeleton that could be the most compelling evidence to date that North America’s first settlers migrated across a land bridge that once spanned the Bering Strait. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, the scientists asked for an order blocking the handing over of the so-called “Kennewick Man,” discovered July 28. The fact that the bones appear to be those of a Caucasian could cast new light on the question of who were the first Americans.
