‘Larry Sanders Show’ Is Top Winner at CableACE Awards

Garry Shandling’s ironic talk show spoof “The Larry Sanders Show” led winners at Saturday’s CableACE Awards, including trophies for best comedy, acting, directing and writing.
Home Box Office, which airs “Larry Sanders,” hit the jackpot with 28 wins in the 18th annual ceremony, held in Los Angeles. It was followed by A&E; Television Network and ESPN with six each.
Cable News Network, Lifetime Television, Showtime and Turner Network Television each got four awards; American Movie Classics, Nickelodeon, the Learning Channel and the Travel Channel each got three; and Bravo Cable Network, the Disney Channel and TBS Superstation each had two.
Cinemax, CNBC, Comedy Central, the Family Channel, Home Team Sports, Independent Film Channel and USA Network each won once.
Programs winning three awards were Showtime’s “Truman” and HBO’s “Tracey Takes On . . . “
