Coast Report, the student newspaper at Orange Coast College, won 11 awards at the 24th annual Journalism Assn. of Community Colleges conference at Cal State Northridge.
More than 400 student reporters, editors and photographers from 36 California and Arizona campuses competed in on-the-spot and mail-in categories judged by members of the professional media.
Matt Brown of La Habra, a former photo editor, won first place in the sports feature photo category. Co-editor Sekhar Nebhan of Costa Mesa took first in feature writing.
The newspaper’s staff also performed well in categories for feature photos, photo illustrations, editorial writing and news writing, officials said.
