A divided City Council has given final approval to a pay raise for its members, effective Dec. 13.
By a 3-2 vote, the council raised its pay by 5% to $510 a month from $486.
The increase was opposed by Councilwomen Cecilia L. Age and Gail H. Kerry, who did not seek reelection and are retiring from office this year. Voting for the increase were Mayor Walter K. Bowman, Councilwoman Mary Ann Jones and Councilman Tom Carroll.
