Split III: It’s official: State Senate leader Bill Lockyer introduced his Valley secession bill in Sacramento on Tuesday. As promised, the bill gets rid of the City Council veto but calls for a citywide vote on dividing Los Angeles. Lockyer promises no delays in “anyone’s right to seek changes in their government.”

Not So Fast: The love fest between Valley leaders and Lockyer didn’t last through the weekend. A citywide group, formed by Valley pro-secession fans, nixed most of Lockyer’s proposal Saturday. Why? “They are a little suspicious of Sen. Lockyer’s motives,” reports Jeff Brain of Sherman Oaks.

World Peace: The planets are in rare alignment today, say those who keep track of such matters. At the Imagine Center in Tarzana, a group think is planned to capitalize on the auspicious astrological moment. Folks will gather at 9:15 a.m. for a community meditation session--a little “om-ing,” manager Michael Dawson calls it. . . . Or one can “om” alone. “Stop anywhere and send light to the planet,” Dawson says.
