Arnold Schwarzenegger was in stable condition a day after undergoing elective heart surgery to replace a faulty aortic valve, his publicist said Thursday.
Schwarzenegger, 49, was recovering at an undisclosed Los Angeles-area hospital, said spokeswoman Catherine Olim.
“It’s my understanding that it will be a pretty short stay,” said Olim.
The action star and former champion bodybuilder was expected to recover without any changes in his lifestyle or need for further treatment, Olim said. He is expected to promote his upcoming movie “Batman and Robin” at the end of May, she said.
Schwarzenegger’s wife, television journalist Maria Shriver, was at his bedside, Olim said. Shriver is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Schwarzenegger said he had “never felt sick or had any symptoms at all” from the condition, but decided to go ahead with the operation after consulting with his doctors.
