Wall Would Cut Noise by Imperial Highway
City officials are considering building a block wall to reduce noise along a residential section of Imperial Highway between Associated Road and Castle Gate Lane, but might ask residents to pay for maintenance.
The project is funded by a grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority, but the money would not cover maintenance of the wall. Therefore, officials have proposed a $20 a month fee be assessed on the 29 households involved. The money would cover gardener’s fees.
Such a move would require the formation of an assessment district, which would need approval by two-thirds of area homeowners, city officials said.
Area residents have complained about the noise along Imperial Highway, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. An increase in traffic on the busy highway is expected when a nearby commercial development is completed later this year.
