Saddleback College District Is Renamed

To let the community know that is represents two campuses, Saddleback Community College District has changed its name.
The board of trustees voted to rename the governing body South Orange County Community College District.
For years, officials said, there has been confusion over the district’s name because it is similar to that of one of its campuses: Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. The district also operates Irvine Valley College in Irvine.
The name change becomes effective immediately.
College officials said it will take about two years to phase in the name change.
“We are going to let natural progression take place,” said Diane Riopka, a district spokeswoman. “We’re not going to reorder things just to change the name. As we need to order new supplies or as publications go through cycles, we’ll change the name.”
Riopka said that changing all stationery and other supplies now, just to accommodate the new name, would be too costly.
In 1967, when the district was formed, it was called Saddleback Junior College District. It was renamed Saddleback Community College District in 1970.
The district serves residents living within the area from Tustin to San Clemente.
