Workshop Examines Asian Family Violence

A workshop to educate the public about domestic violence in the Valley’s Asian and Pacific Islander community will be held today at Cal State Northridge.

The workshop will focus on language and cultural barriers that Asians and Pacific Islanders face, said Susan Ng, program coordinator for the Asian & Pacific Islander Council of the San Fernando Valley. Practical information will be available on how to recognize domestic violence and resources for families in crisis.

A group of speakers will explore issues ranging from the dynamics of an abusive relationship and its effects on children to victims’ legal rights as well as clinical treatment and crisis intervention for both victim and perpetrator, Ng said.
