Tony McCombs, a district volunteer and active member of the Parents-Teachers Assn., will be sworn as a school board member at Thursday’s meeting.
McCombs, 40, was appointed May 22 by the Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees with a 3-1 vote. He replaces former Trustee Barbara A. Vogel, who resigned May 30 before moving with her family to Atlanta.
The new trustee was among the parents who fought to keep Fred Moiola Elementary School’s kindergarten-through-eighth-grade configuration last winter when the district was considering limiting it to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. He helped assemble a contingent of parents, students, teachers and alumni to retain the grade structure.
Each of his four daughters, ages 14, 11, 9 and 8, attend Moiola. McCombs is technology chairman of Moiola’s Parents-Teachers Assn., and, as a volunteer, teaches students there how to operate audio and video equipment.
As a new member, McCombs will join the board Thursday in reviewing and possibly adopting the 1997-98 district budget.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in school district headquarters, 17210 Oak St.
Information: (714) 843-3200.
