In response to [a letter writer’s] comments regarding Dodger fans: Maybe the people of Chicago and Boston accept losing, but here in California, baseball is not a sport, it’s a way of life.

Oakland Athletics first baseman Mark McGwire has expressed an interest in coming to Southern California. Outside of his rookie season, Eric Karros continues to show his mediocrity. Somehow he’s the team leader, plays everyday and blames one of the league’s best pitching staffs for not holding down the opposition. If I were Fred Claire I would start measuring McGwire for a Dodger Blue uniform.
