City OKs Contract With Pasadena Humane Society

Stray dogs, cats and other abandoned animals in La Canada Flintridge will be taken to the Pasadena Humane Society instead of the county’s Baldwin Park animal shelter.
La Canada officials said the city is switching its contract next month because the Humane Society’s facility is closer to the foothill community than the Baldwin Park shelter.
“Citizens have been traveling more than 20 miles to Baldwin Park for years. Now they will travel less than seven miles,” said Steve McNall, executive director of the Humane Society.
The council has approved a one-year $54,000-contract with the facility in the neighboring city. Humane Society officers also will act as law enforcement in animal cruelty investigations for La Canada and will oversee dog licensing, officials said.
