Press to Be Used Sparingly

Though the small-lineup Bruins would seem to be the right-sized team to use the full-court press, Coach Steve Lavin said that, given his lack of true depth, he probably won’t be using pressure for long periods of time.
UCLA used the press sparingly in the three games of the Great Alaska Shootout last week.
“We like to press, but depth again becomes a concern like last year,” Lavin said. “If we were at full strength, then I think pressing is a more viable way to play all the time.
“But we’re in the same situation as last year. We have six-seven players and five of our first eight are freshmen.”
