SAUGUS — A Newhall man was killed on the job Friday afternoon when a machine exploded and drew him into the mechanism, dismembering him, authorities said.
Gary Wolling, 34, was working on a machine that cleans PVC piping at Keysor Century Corp., 26000 Springbrook Ave., about 3:10 p.m. when the machine exploded, drawing Wolling into it, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rich Longshore. Wolling was pronounced dead at the scene.
Some employees witnessed the accident, authorities said, though it was unclear how many.
What caused the explosion is unknown, Longshore said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives and inspectors of Cal/OSHA, the state agency that polices workplace safety, are investigating.
