Alcohol Use Suspected in Crash That Injures Teens

ANAHEIM — Police say high speed and alcohol appear to have been involved in a crash that left two teenage girls injured, one critically, after their car hit a tree early Saturday.
Paramedics who responded to the 12:50 a.m. crash reported that the girls smelled of alcohol, Anaheim police said.
The pair left a friend’s 21st birthday party in a 1965 Volkswagen Bug and were heading north on Anaheim Hills Road at excessive speed, police said. As the car approached Santa Ana Canyon Road, it hit a tree in the center divider, police said.
Both girls were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. The driver, from Fullerton, was in critical condition with head injuries, police said; the passenger, from Yorba Linda, had less serious injuries.
Police did not release the girls’ names or ages. The crash remains under investigation.
