Bakersfield 53, Ventura 9--The Renegades did not allow the Pirates (1-9, 1-4) a first down until the final minute of the first half in a WSC Northern Division game at Bakersfield.
The Renegades (9-1, 4-1), third-ranked in the JC Athletic Bureau state poll, got 170 yards and two touchdowns in 24 carries from J’Dron London, who scored on runs of one and 53 yards.
Armis Stokes added 89 yards in 11 carries for Bakersfield, which amassed 428 yards.
The Renegades built a 33-0 lead before Ventura scored midway through the third quarter on Jeff Collins’ 18-yard field goal.
Ventura’s Reco Caudle caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brian Rucker early in the fourth quarter, capping an 11-play, 80-yard drive.
Rucker completed 12 of 29 passes for 170 yards and had one pass intercepted.
Ventura’s Brandon Scott, who entered the game as the WSC’s top rusher, carried 12 times for 42 yards. He sustained a shoulder injury in the first quarter, but returned in the third quarter.
The Pirates were held to 16 yards rushing.
