Meade Instruments Posts $633,000 Profit

IRVINE — Meade Instruments Corp., a designer and manufacturer of telescopes and accessories, reported record net income of $633,000, or 9 cents a share, for its fiscal second quarter, which ended Aug. 31.
The profit was a major increase over net income of $53,000, or 2 cents a share, for the same quarter last year. Quarterly sales grew 3% to $12.3 million from $12 million.
The company earned $635,000, or 10 cents a share, for its first six months, contrasted with a net loss of $70,000, or 2 cents a share, for the same period last year. Sales rose 30% to $25 million from $19.2 million for the period.
