Deputies to Survey Residents on Concerns

Sheriff’s deputies plan to conduct a door-to-door survey Saturday in an effort to address quality of life issues and community concerns.

The survey is part of the Sheriff’s Department’s High-Impact Community Oriented Policing Program that was launched last year to address problems such as graffiti and gang-related crime. As part of the program, deputies introduce themselves to residents in an attempt to identify their concerns and then become responsible for patrolling the neighborhood and trying to combat crime.

“This is a whole new concept of policing and it’s very exciting for us,” said Deputy Bill Martin. “It helps bring stability to the neighborhood and helps us get familiar with the residents while they get familiar with us.”

Martin said the program is in operation in several communities in Los Angeles and the department plans to expand it to other neighborhoods over the next year.
