‘Evening on Conejo’ to Be Performed

Hear the neighborhood gossip, meet the Conejo Valley’s first land barons, nibble on a chicken dinner at the Grand Union Hotel, debate the merits of cattle and sheep or hold hands with your beau in the misty lamplight at the annual “An Evening on the Conejo--1876” performance.

The event, which celebrates the region’s origins and is sponsored by the Conejo Valley Historical Society, is part dinner theater, part history lesson.

The performance, which takes place at the Stagecoach Inn Museum, is a series of skits that re-create Conejo Valley life in the late 1800s, when the conejos, or rabbits, outnumbered people.

Scenes include a father regaling his children with ghost stories, horsemen exchanging pre-election information and a young woman being fitted for her wedding dress.

Attending the event for the first time last year, Stagecoach Inn volunteer Ann Vracin was stunned.

“It was all over too soon,” she said. “I honestly didn’t want to leave this little community I had just explored.”
