Groups Plan Toy Drive for Native Americans

Two Orange County-based humanitarian groups, the Walking Shield American Indian Society and the Coalition for the Advancement of Civil Justice, have united in an effort to collect more than 35,000 toys for American Indian children this holiday season.
“The partnership will allow our two organizations to combine resources, ideas and volunteers to make a powerful program even more successful,” coalition founder Daniel Chapin said.
Walking Shield, based in Tustin, has donated toys and other gifts to Native American children in South Dakota since 1986, and in 1995 began collecting backpacks filled with personal hygiene items for teenagers.
Other projects include providing and repairing housing, funding emergency medical care and donating food, clothing and school supplies.
