Everman, Horwitz Lift Notre Dame to Sweep

Joel Everman scored 10 goals and Jon Horwitz added eight for the Notre Dame High boys’ water polo team, which cruised to two pool-play victories in the Zach Hahn tournament Thursday at Calabasas High.
The Knights (9-1) opened with a 14-1 victory over Calabasas, followed by a 20-6 victory over Rio Mesa.
Everman scored six goals against Calabasas and four against Rio Mesa to raise his season total to a team-leading 54. Horwitz had four goals in each game.
In another water polo game:
Newbury Park 13, San Marino 4--Matt Rhodes had four goals for the Panthers, who split two pool-play games in the Buena tournament.
Rhodes had three goals in an 11-6 loss to Lompoc.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
CS Sacramento d. CS Northridge, 13-15, 7-15, 15-12, 16-14, 15-6--Nancy Ma’s 26 kills and Crystal Newquist’s 18 weren’t enough for the host Matadors (8-4, 2-1) in a Big Sky Conference match. The Hornets (9-4, 3-1) outblocked Northridge, 22-12 1/2.
Biola d. Cal Lutheran, 15-5, 15-5, 15-4--Lauren McCartin had 10 kills and Marianne Moll added seven for the Regals (0-4) in a nonconference match at Biola (12-3).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Chatsworth d. Cleveland 15-4, 15-9, 15-9--Kelly Cohen had five of the Chancellors’ 16 aces and Leila Pate had six kills for Chatsworth (1-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Chatsworth.
Sylmar d. Reseda, 15-6, 15-4, 15-3--The Spartans (4-0) needed only 45 minutes to win a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Reseda.
Kassy Jiminez led Sylmar with eight kills and seven blocks.
Newbury Park d. Simi Valley, 15-12, 12-15, 15-9, 5-15, 15-10--Malia Kimball had 12 kills and 18 digs and the Panthers (2-2, 2-1) handed the visiting Pioneers (4-1, 2-1) their first Marmonte League loss.
Thousand Oaks d. Channel Islands, 15-4, 15-5, 15-9--Marie Middleton had seven kills and Remy Renault had six kills and nine blocks for the host Lancers (3-1, 2-1) in a Marmonte League match.
L.A. Baptist d. Paraclete, 15-1, 15-6, 15-9--Gloria Erickson had 11 kills and Kristen Jensen had eight kills and five aces for the Knights (5-0) in a nonleague match at L.A. Baptist.
Chaminade d. Bell-Jeff, 15-11, 15-8, 15-17, 15-5--Lindsay Welch had 10 kills and six aces and Hylah Hedgepeth had nine kills and seven digs for the Eagles (3-0) in a nonleague match at Chaminade.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Camarillo 10, Agoura 8--The doubles team of Bettina Rettenmaier and Annie Doud swept three sets and the Scorpions won eight of nine sets in doubles in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.
Lauren Gaona picked up the only singles victories for Camarillo (4-1, 3-0).
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Crescenta Valley 25, Newbury Park 33; Crescenta Valley 15, Burroughs NS; Newbury Park 15, Burroughs NS--Sonia Teymouri of Crescenta Valley (2-0) edged Sarah Spilman of host Newbury Park (1-1) by one second to lead the Falcons in a nonleague meet at Peppertree Park.
