United Parcel Service of America Inc. said company pilots are likely to reject its latest contract offer. In a telephone press conference, spokesman Ken Shapero said “it was very possible” that the company’s more than 2,000 pilots will reject the latest UPS proposal when votes are tallied on Wednesday in Washington. The vote, the latest step in a two-year negotiation with the pilots, comes a month after the National Mediation Board said pilots won’t be free to strike until next year. The mediation board has already warned the union that it will recess the talks until next year if the group rejects the company’s latest proposal.
