Henderson’s Comment Was Way Off Base

So the Angels’ Rickey Henderson worries that he is “hitting like a girl.” [Sept. 20] Actually, if he were, his game would probably be a lot better. Although The Times and the community has largely seen fit to ignore it in comparison to the incomparable lauding the boys’ team received, girls’ teams from Orange County won the national softball championship for age 18 and under in Oklahoma City, and also the 14-and-under division in Rockford, Ill.

So Rickey, I hope you do start hitting like a girl in order to bring up your batting average. And congratulations to all the girls who excel in athletics but receive little recognition.
