Rowand, Flores Pace Titans in Victory Over Nevada

Aaron Rowand drove in three runs with two doubles and Benito Flores pitched eight innings for his eighth victory of the season as Cal State Fullerton rallied to beat Nevada, 9-4, in a Big West Conference baseball game Friday at Fullerton.

The Titans are 27-12, 13-4 in the Big West. Nevada is 17-16, 5-6.

Rowand gave the Titans a 5-4 lead in the seventh when he doubled down the left-field line to score Pete Fukuhara and Kevin Duck. The Titans scored two more runs in the inning off reliever Scott Albin, who fell to 1-1.

Flores (8-0) gave up three walks and two-run singles to Glen Carson and Corky Miller in the third inning. He and reliever Marco Hanlon shut down the Wolf Pack in the ninth inning..

The two teams play the third game of the series at 1 today at Titan Field.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Concordia 11-12, Cal Baptist 4-6--Senior Chad Smith tied a Concordia school record with his 10th home run of the season in the second game. Smith, who has 16 career homers, broke the previous career record of 14 Monday against Occidental. He had three hits and five RBIs in the second game.

Ben Kindreich drove in five runs in the first game for Concordia (19-18, 12-8), which has won six in a row. Cal Baptist is 8-30, 3-16.

In Golden State Athletic Conference track and field:

Southern California College women win--SCC won the triangular meet with 118 points. Fresno Pacific was second (117) and Westmont third (105). Former Santa Ana Valley High standout Isis Gonzalez was a double winner for SCC. The junior won the 100 (12.5 seconds) and 200 meters (25.3) and anchored the winning 400- and 1,600-meter relays.

SCC’s Darriann Kenworthy was the winner in the pole vault (9 feet).

In the men’s meet, Southern California College finished third with 99 points. Westmont was first (132) and Fresno Pacific was second (101).

Phil Negrete was a double winner for SCC, taking the long jump (21-11 3/4) and the triple jump (44-2 1/2). Teammates Matt Wheeler won the 3,000 meters in 10:09.10 and Josh Schultz won the 800 meters (1:56.0).
