Man Shot in Hand During Argument

A 20-year-old man standing on a street corner in south Oxnard was shot in the hand after he argued with a group of men, authorities said Saturday.
John Covarrubias of Oxnard was shot in the 1200 block of C Street after being approached by the group about 11:50 p.m. Friday, said Officer Terry Burr. One man pulled out a gun and fired before the group fled, Burr said.
Covarrubias was taken by a friend to St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard, where he was treated and released, Burr said.
Officers said Covarrubias did not know the man who attacked him but said he was on foot. There were no details about the argument, but officers were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, Burr said.
