Suspect Held in Slaying of Bomb Maker

NABLUS, West Bank — Palestinian officials arrested a leading militant in the death of a Hamas bomb maker Saturday even as thousands of Palestinians rallied against Israel, calling for revenge for the slaying of Mohiedin Sharif.
Palestinian official Tayeb Abdel-Rahim confirmed the arrest of Hamas member Imad Awadallah in the death of bomb maker Sharif.
In a sign of growing friction between Yasser Arafat’s Palestinian Authority and its critics, Hamas lashed out, saying the authority should change its ways or get out of government.
Hamas blames Israel for the killing, but an investigation by the Palestinian Authority said it was the result of a power struggle in the militant organization.
Palestinian investigators say Awadallah shot Sharif late last month, then placed the body near a car set to explode to cover up the crime.
