A Canoga Park horticulturist will lead a botanical tour today at Soka University of America.
Horticulturist Tom Hayduk will guide visitors through the university’s Botanical Research Center and Nursery, which includes an automated greenhouse as well as propagation and research facilities.
The center is dedicated exclusively to plant life native to the Santa Monica Mountains and houses a documented seed bank of more than 225 plant species, said Assistant Director Earlyn Mosher.
The tour will also include a visit to the John and Juliana Gensley Native Plant Demonstration Garden, which displays more than 100 species of plants, she said. Plants in full bloom at the garden include the sticky monkey flower, yarrow and the bladder pod.
The one-hour free tour begins at 10 a.m. at the Botanical Center, 26800 W. Mulholland Highway, Calabasas.
