Police in Lafayette, Ind., were investigating an unexplained arson attack in which a stolen pickup truck loaded with an explosive device was set ablaze and sent careening into a courthouse. The “improvised explosive device” did not detonate in the incident, but damage to the Tippecanoe County courthouse from smoke and water was extensive, the Sheriff’s Department said. The vehicle crashed through two sets of plate-glass doors and came to rest about 40 feet inside the historic courthouse. No one was hurt. Police said whoever was driving escaped unseen.
